In pursuance of provisions of Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 and West Bengal Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Rules, 1999, (Notification No. 2101-SW/1A-14/97 dated 8th July, 1999) Department of Women & Child Development and Social Welfare, Govt. of West Bengal set up the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities at 45, Ganesh Chandra Avenue (2nd & 3rd floor), Kolkata- 700 013. Later on, this office has been shifted and functioning from Subhanna (7th Floor), Salt Lake, Kolkata – 700064 w.e.f. August, 2020.
