Directorate on Child Rights and Trafficking (DCRT) has been set up by Govt. of West Bengal under the aegis of Department of Women & Child Development & Social Welfare vide notification no 305/SW/3E (Sectt)-06/15 dated 20thJanuary, 2015. West Bengal is the first State to have a separate Directorate for addressing violation of child right issues and child trafficking cases. No other State in India has a separate Directorate on Child Rights & Trafficking. 
Earlier, Social Welfare Department was the parent directorate for child related activities. But with signing of MOU between Central and the State Govt. in 2009 for implementation of Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS), the scope of work expanded and the need was felt by the State Govt. to have a separate Directorate on Child Rights and Trafficking.
