The Vagrancy Directorate is engaged in the implementation of the THE BENGAL VAGRANCY ACT 1943 and Eradication & Control of Juvenile Beggary and Vagrancy. Under the Bengal Vagrancy Act, 1943 this Directorate runs and administers 10 Vagrants' Homes where at present 944 vagrants are staying.
Vocational Training is imparted to the Vagrants with the objective of mainstreaming them in the Society and making them self independent with attachment to some income generation activities.
Apart from this, Social Security Pensions (Jai Bangla Pension Scheme) under Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Scheme for Shelter for Urban Homeless and Implementation of Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizen Act, 2007 are also looked after by the Controller of Vagrancy, West Bengal having his office at Purta Bhawan, Ground Floor, Salt Lake, Kolkata -700091.
